Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been fined $10,000 for using the ball as a prop, a NFL league source said on Wednesday. Holmes impersonated LeBron James and tossed the football in the air the way the basketball player does chalk dust after scoring the game winning touchdown in Super Bowl 43. Center Alex Mack Will Not Participate At NFL Combine

University of California center Alex Mack sprained his ankle on Monday, and it will prevent him from participating in drills this week in Indianapolis at the 2009 NFL Combine. “While preparing for the combine on Monday with my trainer, I suffered a sprained ankle,” Mack said. “The injury isn’t serious, but unfortunately, it is going to keep me from working out this week in Indianapolis. No one is more disappointed than me, as I have been working tirelessly to further prove myself as a first-round pick. However, I don’t want to perform at anything less than 100 percent. “I will complete Read more [...]

Fred Taylor Will Not Be A Steeler

I am not too sure what SI writer Peter King is smoking, but to suggest that recently released Jaguar running back Fred Taylor could be a Steeler, it must be some good stuff. With Rashard Mendenhall surely to be recovered from his injury and Mewelde Moore likely to be kept at his bargain price, there is simply no room in Pittsburgh for Taylor. Throw in the fact that starting running back Willie Parker would go bonkers if a veteran like Taylor were to be brought in; this should slam the door on this speculation. Taylor would want too high of a contract and there are plenty of teams around the NFL Read more [...]
If ever there was writing on the wall, Steelers linebacker coach Keith Butler will take over as defensive coordinator when Dick Lebeau retires. The Steelers granted Butler permission to talk to Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt about the vacant defensive coordinator position with the Cardinals. Butler evidently did not take the job and instead decided to stay put with the Steelers although it’s not 100% clear if Butler was indeed offered the job. Butler enters his sixth year on the Steelers coaching staff after joining the coaching staff prior to the 2003 season. He remained on staff Read more [...]

Next Season Sports 2009 Mock Draft

I recently took part in a cooperative mock draft at Next Season Sports with other NFL bloggers. The bloggers ranged from newspaper reporters to well established fan site writers. In the mock draft I selected center Alex Mack from the University of California. Below is the explanation of my pick. Ah, it is good to be the king, especially when you are a king that likes not spending money on early draft picks. The 2009 draft class is not one of the better ones of recent, but is high in value talent to match the Steelers needs. The Steelers will go into the 2009 NFL draft with two glaring needs, Read more [...]

The Steelers added depth to their offseason roster by signing first-year defensive end Jordan Reffett to the roster on Monday. Jeff Reed Has Run In With Empty Paper Towel Holder

Steelers kicker Jeff Reed has been charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after throwing a temper tantrum over an empty paper towel machine at at Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria borough shortly before 3 a.m. Reed found that the paper towel holder in the bathroom was empty and started banging from inside the bathroom. Reed damaged the paper towel holder. After leaving the bathroom, Reed cussed out store employee using very profane language. He continued to use profane language outside the store, police said.

Well the offseason is here and between the Steelers celebrating their sixth Super Bowl championship and the NFL combine starting next week, I thought we would have a little fun. As many Steeler fans already know, our defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau was once a stunt double in the 1970 movie, Too Late the Hero, starring Michael Caine. LeBeau was the movie stunt double for Caine while still playing for the Detroit Lions. LeBeau even has his own IMDB page. As of this blog post, the page is up 48% in popularity this week. What a great tribute it would be to drive that pages traffic through the roof. Read more [...]
The Steelers re-signed WR Dallas Baker, CB Roy Lewis, S Ryan Mundy, TE Dezmond Sherrod, RB Justin Vincent and LB Donovan Woods on Thursday. All six players spent part or all of the 2008 season on the Steelers practice squad. The Steelers also signed two additional players to their offseason roster. Those players were, WR Brandon Williams and FB Ryan Powdrell. Williams has played in a total of 23 games with the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams from 2006-2007. He was released by the Rams prior to the 2008 regular season. Williams was selected in the third round (84th overall) of the 2006 Read more [...]
The Steelers are currently negotiating a salary raise and contract extension for linebacker James Harrison, according to Harrison's agent, Bill Parise, with both sides having discussions as often as twice a day. "It's been a very open process, and it's going about the way you would expect," Parise said. "So I think everything is moving along." Harrison was one of the league's biggest bargains in 2008 with an annual salary of $1.2 million for the year. Harrison tallyied 101 tackles, 16 sacks, seven forced fumbles and was also named the NFL's defensive player of the year. Parise said he's very confident Read more [...]

Steelers Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes was a guest Wednesday on "Live With Regis and Kelly" and re-enacted the winning touchdown catch that won Super Bowl 43. Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward had successful shoulder clean up surgery this week. Ward will not need surgery on the sprained right knee that he injured in the AFC Championship game versus Baltimore, said his agent, Darren Martin. Martin also said, that Ward is not expected to be limited in offseason workouts.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger played in Super Bowl 43 with at least two small rib fractures, according to SI writer Peter King. Roethlisberger did undergo X-rays during Super Bowl week, but he injury did not show up until a post-Super Bowl MRI back in Pittsburgh. The NFL said on Monday that the Steelers were not in violation of league injury report rules when they failed to list Roethlisberger on the injury report during Super Bowl week. The NFL cited the Steelers did report Roethlisberger's injury during the bye week, when he missed Wednesday's practice with a back ailment. "Ben's injury was Read more [...]

The Steelers have agreed to a two year future contract with B.C. Lions running back Stefan Logan. The two-year deal with  will be signed on Friday. There is no significant signing bonus in the deal, but that fact does not bother the South Dakota product. "I'm not worried about that," Logan told TSN.  "They told me I had a good opportunity to make the team as a starting kick and punt returner and as a third down back."
