Steelers Six From Around The Web – Friday August 7th

Starting center Justin Hartwig is still limited in practice by a sore right toe and doesn\’t want to rush back for fear of re-injuring it. Hartwig still does not know when he will return to a full practice.

Jim Wexell reported on Twitter that undrafted free agent center Alex Derenthal could be signed today to the roster. Derenthal was a four-year starter at Temple and awarded all-conference honors as a senior.

Dan Gigler caught up with retired Steelers center Jeff Hartings who was at Latrobe leading a group of kids from the Urban Impact Foundation of Pittsburgh. Hartings looks like he could still suit up. We need a number two veteran center.

John Harris reports that the Steelers are playing more zone defense in the secondary thus far in training camp. Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said it\’s too early to make a decision if the defense will play less man coverage this season with younger less experienced corners.

If you are not getting excited yet about rookie receiver Mike Wallace, you should be. His blazing speed is getting him some deep looks and his ability to stretch the field will be needed. Wallace has been blowing past defensive backs since camp opened last Friday. Below is the repost of his combine workout video.

Long time Steeler fan Snoop Dogg angered Steeler Nation on Thursday by attending Ravens camp. Ray Lewis went as far to introduce Snoop as the coach for the day. Hey Snoop, say it ain\’t fo shizzle my nizzle. The Steelers had University of Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari as a camp visitor on Thursday. Calipari kind of looks too much like Ravens head coach John Harbaugh though.
