Steelers Six From Around The Web – Monday August 17th

Offensive lineman Darnell Stapleton had the staples removed from his surgically repaired knee on Sunday and proclaimed that there’s no doubt in his mind that he can come back and play this season.

Jim Wexell reports on free agent running back, Isaac Redman, work against the first string goal line defense on Sunday. Redman had a good showing and some of the veterans like safety Ryan Clark and linebacker James Harrison do not seem too happy with the success he had against them. Redman will likely get an earlier look in the game against Washington on Saturday.

While the Steelers coaching staff is not ready to put Isaac Redman into the Hall of Fame just yet, he is getting complements from offensive coordinator Bruce Arians on his pass blocking. This could be one of the biggest factors if he makes the team. He will need to contribute as a special teamer as well.

Mike Prisuta reports, guard Kraig Urbik (eye), wide receiver Tyler Grisham (hamstring), running back Mewelde Moore (hamstring), wide receiver Brandon Williams (abdominal) and guard Darnell Stapleton (knee) didn’t practice on Sunday. Running back Rashard Mendenhall (quad) returned to practice and safety Troy Polamalu (calf) and defensive end Travis Kirschke (ankle) left practice early. He also reports Frank Summers had a good day as a blocker in the goal-line drill.

Steelers.com has the game release posted for the second pre-season game versus the Washington Redskins on Saturday.

Got word of a new website called Let Dick In. It is dedicated to getting defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Site has email addresses of the voters and a petition as well.
