Steelers Six From Around The Web – Monday August 3rd

Mike Bires reports that wide receiver Limas Sweed is making improvements in his quest for the number 3 receiver spot vacated by free agent Nate Washington. Sweed is battling veteran acquisition Shaun McDonald.

Dale Lolley reports that offensive lineman Trai Essex is getting more comfortable on the right side of the offensive line. If Essex does not win the right guard spot, he will be counted on heavily as a backup offensive lineman on both sides of the line.

Second year running back, Rashard Mendenhall, took a hip-hop dance class in the offseason to help with his conditioning. Mendenhall claims he is in better shape and has added more muscle since last season.

Center Jeff Hartwig has had brief discussions with the Steelers about a contract extension, but now that the pre-season has started it will likely not happen until later in the year. Right tackle Willie Colon is also a free agent and will likely be addressed first.

John Harris has a good story on undrafted free agent wide receiver, Tyler Grisham, from Clemson. Grisham has been turning heads in camp with his acrobatic catches and blocking. He can play the inside and outside spot as well. A strong camp may mean a practice squad spot for Grisham.

Steelers.com has there own camp update from the rain soaked Sunday afternoon practice session.
