Steelers Six From Around The Web – Thursday August 20th

Nothing like bulletin board material for a pre-season game. Washington Redskins safeties coach Steve Jackson said, his safety LaRon Landry, is better than Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. I wonder if Jackson watches tape at all. There is more to playing safety than just coverage. Perhaps he missed this video below.

It really comes as no surprise that offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has no plans to run the Wildcat offense. For one thing, the perfect canidate, quarterback Dennis Dixon, will likely be the third quarterback on Sundays and can be used only in emergency. Also, none of the running backs can throw worth a hoot.

Third-round pick, guard Kraig Urbik, has been a big disappointment thus far in training camp. Dale Lolley points out that instead of pushing for a starting job on the right side, he is pushing hard for a roster spot. The Steelers may carry 10 lineman to start the season, and that may be the only way Urbik makes it is at number 10.

Defensive line coach John Mitchell has cautioned rookie defensive end, Ziggy Hood, about emulating veteran Brett Keisel too much. Hood lined up on the right side in the team\’s nickel and dime packages in pre season game number one. It will be interesting if he gets to do it again against Washington on Saturday night as it could be his role this season.

Mike Bires has probably the last feature story on punt returner, Stefan Logan. The next one you read may be talking about the release of him. With only seven spots available on the practice squad, Logan may be auditioning for a return job for another team. It is unlikely he would be pursued as a practice squad player for the Steelers.
