Steelers Chargers Week 4 Wednesday Practice Injury Report – Parker Sits Out

On Wednesday the Steelers began practice preparations for the Sunday night game against the San Diego Chargers. Running back Willie Parker (toe) did not practice because of turf toe on his big toe on his right foot. Parker said, “It feels better, I\’m taking it one day at a time.” Strong safety Troy Polamalu (knee) remains sidelined as he recovers from a MCL sprain and is a long shot to play against the Chargers after testing the knee today. Tight end David Johnson (ankle) also did not practice and likely will not all week as he recovers from the high ankle sprain suffered in Cincinnati. Center Justin Hartwig (ankle) and Hines Ward (not injury related) both sat out as well on Wednesday. Tight end Matt Spaeth (hip) practiced fully Wednesday after suffering a hip pointer on Sunday.

UPDATED: Polamalu tested the knee today and has not been ruled out yet.

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) was back at practice on Wednesday for the first time since spraining his right ankle during the season opener against the Raiders. Tomlinson said Wednesday that he hopes he can play in Sunday night\’s game at Pittsburgh. Also back at practice on Wednesday was rookie right guard Louis Vasquez (knee), who hasn\’t played since spraining a knee in the season opener. Linebacker Shawne Merriman (groin), linebacker Antwan Applewhite (hamstring) and defensive end Travis Johnson (groin) did not work on Wednesday. Punter Mike Scifres (groin) was limited on Wednesday. Center Nick Hardwick (ankle) has already been ruled out this week.
