Steelers Six From Around The Web – Monday September 21st

Linebacker Lawrence Timmons did play on Sunday, but did not start. Timmons played in mostly the nickel defense and was credited with three solo tackles and two pass defenses by the unofficial press box statisticians. Timmons also had a huge defensive holding call that kept the Bears first touchdown scoring drive alive on a missed third down.

Santonio Holmes dropped what would have been two big catches along the sideline that appeared to go right through his hands. He also appeared to drop a perfectly thrown pass over his shoulders from Ben Roethlisberger in the end zone on the third down before Jeff Reed\’s final miss. Holmes said Bears cornerback Charles Tillman slightly deflected it. 9 of the 12 Ben Roethlisberger incomplete passes were to Holmes.

The only notable injury at this point in the Bears game was the left thigh injury suffered by safety Tyrone Carter that happened on the hit of Bears tight end Greg Olsen. Carter said his leg got worse as the game progressed and admitted he probably should have called a timeout and taken himself out of the game prior to Jay Cutler\’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Knox.

Dale Lolley thinks the loss Sunday will help refocus the Steelers and they will rebound and win in Cincinnati. Lolley also notes the obvious that the Steelers still can\’t run the ball when opponents know they\’re going to run it.

ESPN North blogger James Walker points out that the Steelers defense only has two sacks in two games. that’s stood out is its two sacks in two games. Linebacker James Farrior and defensive end Aaron Smith are the only Pittsburgh players with sacks so far. Sack specialists James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley have been shutout and only combined for one quarterback hit against Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

Despite the running game showing some improvement on Sunday versus the Bears, the Steelers still rank in the near the bottom in every statistical rushing game category after week 2. The running game must improve if the Steelers have any hope of being a playoff team.
