Following the bye week, the Steelers will travel to Denver to play the Broncos on Monday night football. Free safety Ryan Clark has a bad history health wise in the Mile High City. In 2005, while he was with the Redskins, Clark was diagnosed then with a bruised spleen, but the severity of his condition wasn't known until he played again in Denver in 2007. Clark has sickle-cell trait, which means his blood cells are not fully formed. The last time the Steelers played in Denver, Clark spent a night in a hospital before returning to Pittsburgh. His health worsened when he returned to Pittsburgh and

Going into the bye week, 5-2 is indeed a respectable record and after week 3, any Steelers fan would be ecstatic with that right now. The 5-2 record could just as easily be 2-5 or worse if not for a few big plays. The Steelers really have not been dominated, nor have they dominated themselves. Going into the bye, there are 3 major things the Steelers must fix as they head into a crucial 4 game stretch following the bye. Below are those 3 major things:
Kickoff Coverage - This falls under the captain obvious statement of the day, especially now that in two straight games the Steelers have allowed

What was billed as a showdown between 2 of the leagues best quarterbacks, ended up being a battle of defenses. The Steelers defense returned two turnovers by Vikings quarterback Brett Favre for touchdowns in route to 27-17 victory Sunday at Heinz Field.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a very pedestrian performance as he was 14 for 26 passing for 175 yards on the day. The offense never was able to consistently attack the Vikings secondary that was without starting cornerback Antoine Winfield. Winfield sat out with an injured foot and was replaced by a rotation of Benny Sapp, Karl

Audio from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin post game press conference following the 2009, week 7 win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday October 25th, 2009. Transcript to follow.

Mike Tomlin: Good afternoon. We’re pretty fortunate to win that football game to say the least. When you look at the stat sheet and you look at some of the things that happened in that game, usually you don’t win those. They dominated time of possession. We’re not very good in the situational football,

The next 3 games will let the 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers know exactly where they are in terms of playing the better teams in the NFL. It all starts Sunday when the undefeated Minnesota Vikings come to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. The Vikings are of course led by the ageless Brett Favre at quarterback. Favre is playing some of the best football of his career so far in 2009 and enters Sunday's game with a 109.5 quarterback rating. He has thrown 12 touchdown passes versus only 2 interceptions. If Favre was not enough, the Vikings also have the sensational Adrian Peterson at running back. Peterson

This weeks tea leaves are pretty readable as far as game day inactives versus the Vikings go. The first 4 on the list are for sure: Dennis Dixon, Ra'Shon Harris, Kraig Urbik and Tony Hills. Baring injury, they will be listed every week for a while. There is no reason to believe wide receiver Limas Sweed will get back on the field this week, so Shaun McDonald likely gets another hat this week. Cornerback Keenan Lewis is becoming a regular on the list over the past few weeks as well. With David Johnson back healthy, fullback Carey Davis is unlikely to dress again. The last spot in all likelihood

Below are seven matchups or things to look for on Sunday as the Steelers take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Max Starks vs Jared Allen - If this was on a fight card, it would likely be the main event. Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has not only a nose the for the quarterback, but for the football as well. Plain and simple he is a play-maker on the defensive side of the ball. Going into the season Steeler Nation had their doubts about Starks getting the franchise tag. He has earned every penny in my opinion thus far and will really get tested on Sunday. I do not expect him to have to

On Friday, the Steelers got great news as far as the practice and injury report went. Linebacker Andre Frazier (thigh), running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) all practiced fully on Friday. Frazier is officially listed as questionable while both Mendenhall and Polamalu are listed as probable. Baring any unforeseen setbacks, Polamalu should make his second consecutive start since being injured in week one versus the Titans.
For the Vikings on Friday, cornerback Antoine Winfield (foot) was held out of practice again on Friday and is listed as doubtful. Wide receiver

On Thursday, Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward (not injury related) and defensive end Travis Kirschke (not injury related) practiced fully after having days off on Wednesday and have been removed from the injury report. Safety Troy Polamalu (knee) sat out for a second straight day now and will hope to work fully on Friday. Linebacker Andre Frazier (thigh) was added to the injury report today after sitting out practice. Running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) practiced fully on Thursday as well after being limited in practice yesterday.
For the Vikings on Thursday, cornerback Antoine Winfield

Scott Brown from the Trib blogged about how Willie Parker took the demotion to the number 2 role. Parker is saying all the right things, let us hope it motivates him to work harder.
Defensive end Travis Kirschke took 31 of the 51 defensive snaps on Sunday against the Browns in place of Aaron Smith, Nick Eason had 13 snaps and rookie Ziggy Hood had only 7.
If you missed the Jeff Reed apology, you can see it the video of it courtesy off WTAE.
Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield sat out on Wednesday with his sprained right foot and his Vikings teammates didn't seem overly optimistic

The Steelers began practice preparations on Wednesday for the upcoming Sunday game versus the Minnesota Vikings. Wide receiver Hines Ward and defensive end Travis Kirschke (not injury related) were given the day off. Safety Troy Polamalu (knee) was also allowed to sit out as well to rest his knee. Running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) practiced on a limited basis today as he is recovering from a bruised knee suffered against Cleveland. All four players should practice fully on Thursday. Linebacker Andre Frazier (quad) practiced fully and is not listed on the injury report.

Many people have emailed me about the hold on Steelers cornerback Keiwan Ratliff by Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Harrison on the 98 yard kickoff return by Joshua Cribbs that resulted in a touchdown. I am not going to narate or caption the photos as I think they speak for themselves.

Audio from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin press conference on Tuesday October 20th. Tomlin addresses the upcoming week 7 Minnesota Vikings game. As far as injuries go, running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee bruise) and linebacker Andre Frazier (quad) might be limited in the early part of the week in practice, but should be good to go this week. Safety Troy Polamalu (knee) might also be limited early in the week and game out of the Browns game in good shape. Kicker Jeff Reed will indeed play this week following his Sunday night incident. Tomlin indicated that a committee of Ziggy Hood, Travis Kirschke
