The Steelers continued their practice preparations on Thursday for the upcoming Sunday game versus the Miami Dolphins. Defensive end Brett Keisel (neck) and wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) both sat out for a second straight day of practice. Both are hopefully to work in some capacity on Friday and likely will be game time decisions on Sunday. Guard Chris Kemoeatu (wrist) was limited on Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) was also limited for a second consecutive day. It is still highly unlikely Polamalu will play this week. Linebacker Rocky Boiman (calf),

The Steelers began practice preparations on Wednesday for the week 17 game in Miami versus the Dolphins. Linebacker James Farrior (not injury related), defensive end Brett Keisel (neck), guard Chris Kemoeatu (wrist), defensive end Travis Kirschke (calf) and wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) all sat out practice on Wednesday. Linebacker Rocky Boiman (calf), running back Willie Parker (shoulder) and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) all practiced on a limited basis. Polamalu working was the best news of the day, but he did not work in the contact portion of practice. Thursday and Friday are still key

Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison and nose tackle Casey Hampton were the only two players from the Steelers named to the 2010 Pro Bowl on Tuesday. Safety Troy Polamalu was one of the fans favorites in online voting, but missed way too many games to get serious consideration. The AFC and NFC selections are based on the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group's vote counts one-third towards determining the 43-man rosters that represent both conferences.

There is a pretty good chance that Steelers nose tackle Casey Hampton could be playing his final game in a Steelers uniform on Sunday versus the Miami Dolphins. Big Snack is an unrestricted free agent and will be 33 by the time the 2010 season starts. His return to Pittsburgh will likely decided by whether or not a new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) is agreed upon and if 2010 is an uncapped year in regards to a salary cap. If there is no salary cap in 2010, the Steelers could place the franchise tag on him in February and pay him for 1 year at around 6-7 million dollars. This move of course

The Steelers signed defensive back Trae Williams to their active roster on Monday from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. To make room for Williams on the Steelers active roster, rookie cornerback Keenan Lewis was placed on injured reserve with a back injury.

Audio from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin press conference on Tuesday December 29th. Tomlin addresses the upcoming week 17 Miami Dolphins game on Sunday and takes questions on the past Ravens game as well. As far as injuries go, wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) is miserable with two hamstrings hurting. Tomlin says they are saving a seat on the bus for him and he should show up. Safety Troy Polamalu (knee) ran and did straight line work on Monday. He could see some limited practice work this week and the door is not closed yet on him playing. Defensive end Brett Keisel (stinger) aggravated

Lost in all of the Frank Summers and Isaac Redman training camp buzz, was the buzz about undrafted wide receiver Tyler Grisham. Many Steelers beat writers and bloggers joked that they never actually saw Grisham drop a ball during training camp and nearly every catch he made was a thing of beauty. While Grisham had no chance of making the Steelers 53 man roster over the Summer, he accepted it and continued to work as if he did. Grisham impressed the coaching staff enough to earn a practice squad spot. Practice squad spots are not glorious; players receive a weekly pay check based on a $88400.00

Did we all want to the Colts to beat the Jets yesterday? Absolutely! Were we all sick to our stomachs when we saw Curtis Painter take the keys to the Colts offense? Without a doubt. Were we all mad at Colts coaching staff and front office for not recognizing NFL history and greatness laid out before them? Oh, yes indeed. The thing Steeler Nation needs to accept is that the Colts did none of this to spite the Steelers. The Steelers were the farthest thing from their minds. We, as fans, are selfishly motivated. We tend to paint pictures in our heads that look good to us and us only. It is only natural.

Had the Steelers not beaten the Ravens yesterday, it would of been quite fathomable that Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu would of been placed on injured reserve for the final week of the season. While the MRI last Tuesday on Polamalu's knee was considered favorable by media accounts, Polamalu did not practice at all last week. Head coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday in his post game press conference that he may or may not have a new MRI update on Tuesday regarding his condition. That being said, I do not see Polamalu being pressed into action versus the Dolphins this coming Sunday.

Mike Tomlin said it best following the Steelers 23-20 win on Sunday versus the Baltimore Ravens. Not dead yet! That is pretty much the long and short of it following an afternoon of some good and bad Steelers football. The Steelers defense, who had been responsible for several 4th quarter collapses this season, did not surrender any 4th quarter points to the Ravens today. The defense forced some turnovers and was aided by several Ravens miscues and penalties. The Ravens committed 11 penalties for 113 yards on the day. One resulted in a negating a Willis McGahee touchdown and following a few more

Here is the long and short of what the Steelers need in week 17 to get either the #5 or #6 Wild Card seeds in the AFC. Regardless, the Steelers MUST beat the Miami Dolphins and the Texans must lose or tie the New England Patriots. Both of those things must happen for starters. Below are the scenarios. The Texans can win in the last scenario, but the Jets, Ravens & Broncos must all lose or tie.
Pittsburgh clinches a playoff spot:
1) PIT win + HOU loss or tie + NYJ loss or tie
2) PIT win + HOU loss or tie + BAL loss or tie
3) PIT win + NYJ loss or tie + BAL loss or tie + DEN loss or tie

Mike Tomlin: You know, like I just told the football team, this is our bed, but I like how they’re laying in it. Not dead yet. Still got a pulse in this thing and we’ll continue to control the things we can control, playing winning football, preparing, doing the best we can. They did today and

Would you want it any other way as a Steelers fan? A week 16 matchup that means a ton to both teams playoff wise. The Ravens are currently on the inside looking out, while the Steelers are on the outside looking in. At the end of the day on Sunday, the Steelers could have their destiny in their own hands with a win against Baltimore and several other key games falling their way.
The Steelers once again will be without safety Troy Polamalu, while the Ravens will likely be minus safety Ed Reed. The Ravens secondary limps in also without cornerback Lardarius Webb, who has been lost for the season.
