Did The Steelers Know About The Santonio Holmes Assault Allegation?

Now that we have had time to digest the Santonio Holmes news that broke this morning, it is time to look at the timeline of things. Now first of all you need to keep in mind that that there was no police report filed and no charges filed. It is just a civil lawsuit at this point and a he said, she said.

Now to speculate on this, did the Steelers know about this incident? Only Holmes and the organization really know, but if you notice the Holmes alleged incident happened on March 7th. The Steelers signed unrestricted free agent wide receivers Arnaz Battle and Antwaan Randle El on the 8th. Coincidence? Could be, certainly, after all they did have the Battle visit scheduled, but the Randle El signing was a bit of a surprise.

In addition to the above, the Steelers have scheduled Youngstown State WR Donald Jones and Illinois WR Arrelious Benn for pre draft visits. With as many receivers as they have on the roster right now, including ball dropper Limas Sweed, it makes you wonder why they would use 2 of their 30 visits on a position they seem set at. Once again this could of been the plan all along, but perhaps the Steelers were covering their butts if Santonio is suspended or not in the plans to be signed to a new contract.

Is training camp here yet? I am ready for the offseason to be over already!

EDITED TO ADD: Since writing this, Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett has come out and said the team was looking into the allegations and just found out today.
