Steelers Friday Mini Camp Practice Notes

Here are some notes below I have collected from the Steelers Friday mini-camp practice.

Byron Leftwich worked as the first team quarterback followed by Dennis Dixon and then Charlie Batch.

Cornerback Bryant McFadden worked as the first team left cornerback ahead of William Gay while Gay worked as the nickel back and the first-team special teams gunner opposite special teams ace, Anthony Madison.

Andre Frazier worked first team outside right linebacker in place of the absent James Harrison, who was excused for a death in a family back home. Second-round pick Jason Worilds backed up Frazier.

Fourth-round pick Thaddeus Gibson played behind left outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley.

Wide receiver Mike Wallace has not lost any speed in the offseason and Limas Sweed was out on the field as well.

First round pick Maurkice Pouncey worked as the 2nd team right guard behind Trai Essex.

Kraig Urbik was spotted taking 2nd team snaps at center as starter Justin Hartwig didn’t practice as he continues to rehab from off-season shoulder surgery. Doug Legursky took 1st team snaps.

Strong safety Troy Polamalu practiced with the first-team defense and confirmed did not require offseason surgery on his left knee.

Undrafted safety Justin Thornton picked off Charlie Batch.

Rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer says pre-draft concerns about his weight are a non-issue. Dwyer says he\’s “down to about 225”

Free agent receiver Arnaz Battle flashed some good hands on a couple of low throws.

Free agent safety Will Allen had an interception on a tipped pass during 7-on-7 drills.
