2010 Draft

Steelers Select LB Stevenson Sylvester With The 166th Selection 35th Pick In The Fifth Round Of 2010 NFL Draft

Steelers selected LB Stevenson Sylvester with the 166th selection 35th pick in the 5th round of 2010 NFL Draft. Sylvester is an aggressive, fast playing linebacker out of Utah that is a great blitzer. He worked both at outside and inside linebacker at Utah, but the Steelers plan to work him at the inside position. Long and lanky look and initial looks show he can be adequate in pass coverage. Sylvester is 21 years old, 6\’2″ 1/8, 232 lbs with 33 1/4 inch arms and 10 1/4 inch hands and ran a 4.63 40 at the combine. Sylvester motor runs sideline-to-sideline and has above average read and react skills. He struggles shedding blocks and that will be a test working inside. He does pursue well in the open field and has great straight-line speed. He was a four-year starter and two-year team captain at Utah. High character guy and is leader on and off the field. Bottom line is Sylvester will be asked to adapt quickly to inside NFL linebacker in a 3-4 blitz heavy defense. He will have to turn heads quickly in camp and be a head hunter on special teams to make the 53 man roster. Could be a project and practice squad canidate with the linebacker logjam on the roster.
