Steelers Six From Around The Web – Friday April 30th

Gerry Dulac has a more in depth look at rookie outside linebacker Jason Worilds that includes how he took his mother\’s last name and why the Steelers selected him over Penn State inside linebacker Sean Lee.

Another day, another Jonathan Dwyer story. This time from Scott Brown of the Tribune-Review.

Agent Ralph Cindrich posted the story by SportsBusiness Journal on how the NFL and players union differ on the rookie wage scale. A great read that supports both sides. Teresa Varley has a short article on a few Steelers draft picks as they prepare for their first mini-camp that opens today in Pittsburgh.

One pre mini camp mystery is temporarily solved as first round draft pick Maurkice Pouncey will wear #53 to start with. I would hold off running out and buying that number though as it could easily change by the start of the season.

Lost in the draft weekend was a Mike Mayock sit down interview with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick tells how The Rolling Stones had a dramatic effect on the success of Steelers great linebacker Jack Lambert. Very candid interview.

I am reading how we have Legursky at 1st team center Pouncey at first team guard and wondering if we might see a major change in the offensive line this year. Starks, Urbik, Legursky, Pouncey, Foster. Pick 5 back ups out of the rest. We have a new line coach and we may see a complete new line or nearly completely new. Hartwig is still not ready and may not be. I would not be surprised to see him on injured reserve or an injury settlement with regard to him. One thing the above bunch should probably do for us is eliminate a bunch of pre-snap penalties.

Pouncey is second team guard. Legursky is currently the back up center while Hartwig recovers. No sense rushing him back in May. Your scenario of IR or injury settlement his VERY far fetched. Do not try to read too much into anything in May, especially not the first mini camp. I see Steeler Nation do this every year.

Agreed. It’s May. I don’t see Hartwig going from the starter to being released or IR’d. From everything I read, he had minor “cleanup” surgery and should be fine by training camp. Hines Ward also missed most of mini-camp with a hamstring and James Harrison wasn’t there because his uncle died, and obviously Ben wasn’t there, either.

Anyone know why AJ Trump was released before the start of camp?? Makes no sense. Why sign him in the first place?

I read that he didn’t pass the physical, I forget where I read that.

The Steelers still need to cut 10 players between now and training camp as the rookie class signs contracts.
