Steelers History Of Trading Draft Picks In Kevin Colbert Era

I was asked last night via Facebook about the possibility of the Steelers trading up from #31 in the 1st round of the upcoming NFL draft to perhaps target a cornerback or offensive lineman they might covet and all though I really do not know how to best handicap that other than saying the Steelers have not been opposed to trading both up and down on draft day. To better illustrate this I researched out the trades that Steelers Director of Football of Operations Kevin Colbert has made since taking the reins in 2000 and it is fun to look at both the draft day trades and the players acquired on both sides of trades. See the table below. Information compiled from Pro Sports Transactions.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Hmm, that’s really interesting.. So what I read in this is trading down was a bust. We sometimes still got one good player we wanted but the extra picks didn’t help. Yet when we traded up we much more often hit on the picks and got very good value out of it (except colclough).

Thank you for the intesting info. Overall it looks like for the most part the Steelers did very well in their player selections when trading up. and not so well when tading down.

I like the draft history, it’s interesting to see how they have panned out…how about that 2007 draft class – not too shabby, eh?? And 2010 looks like it could be equally impressive, although a lot remains to be seen about some of those players.
