Steelers Six From Around The Web – Friday February 25th – No More Fear Of The Beard Edition

Steelers Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert had a Q&A session with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine and met later with a small group of Pittsburgh beat writers in Indy covering the event. We will be compiling all the 2011 NFL Combine results as they come in complete with official weights and measurements. This is the 3rd year we have provided wall to wall coverage of the numbers.

As expected, Steelers did not use the transition tag on cornerback Ike Taylor, but Colbert said Thursday there have been some preliminary discussions about a new contract before the collective bargaining agreement expires on March 4th. He also said they have every intention of working out a long term deal for linebacker LaMarr Woodley as well.

Brett Keisel shaved the beard on Thursday for Children\’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The event took place at the Diesel Club Lounge on the South Side and Art Rooney II, John Mitchell, Hines Ward, Aaron Smith and Doug Legursky all got to snip off a little before Keisel took care of the rest himself. Great man and a great cause. Hopefully the beard returns one day. Video below of the event.

Deion Sanders was on NFL Network and told Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer to wipe his eyes off and play football. He went on to say The Brown family can not be bullied and doesn’t cave. Sanders and Brian Baldinger also both comment on several other QB\’s around the league as well in 7 plus minute segment.

The Steelers were one of the teams that interviewed PSU guard/center Stefen Wisniewski on Wednesday night at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and former running back Jerome Bettis will be inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame this fall. Also this weekend, former defensive back J.T. Thomas will be inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
