2011 Draft

Steelers Bring In TE Weslye Saunders, S Davon Morgan & DB Aaron Williams For Pre Draft Visits

It was reported yesterday that San Diego State wide receiver Vincent Brown would be visiting Pittsburgh today to have a pre draft visit and now Steelers Digest just announced that South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders, Virginia Tech safety Davon Morgan and Texas defensive back Aaron Williams are also visiting the South Side today as well for pre draft visits. That brings the count of players not from the University of Pittsburgh up to 32, 2 more than the allowed 30 which means a few names on the list might not have been official visits and were individual work-outs instead. A few names that fit that criteria are Middle Tennessee QB/WR Dwight Dasher and Bridgewater WR Tyler Beiler. If you remove both those players from the official visit list, then you have a total of 30 players that the Steelers reportedly have had visits with.

Saunders was the top-ranked tight end by many experts back in August, but was suspended for the entire 2010 season after lying to the NCAA about trips he took last summer with friend who was the focal point of an investigation into alleged improper benefits received from agents. He did not work out at the NFL combine because of a broken bone in his left foot which he had surgery on this month. He did however participate in drills at his Pro Day where he measured in at 6 foot 5 and 1/8 and 267 pounds. He ran the 40 in the 4.9 range and did19 reps on the bench.

Morgan is a safety from nearby Virginia Tech who measured in at 5 foot 11 and 5/8 at his Pro Day and weighed 194 pounds. He ran in his 40 in the low 4.7 range and did 15 reps on the bench at 225 pounds. He is considered a late round draft pick and could possibly go undrafted. He is regarded as a good tackler and also played special teams at VT in addition.

Williams is the most notable of the visitors today and is regarded as a late first round or early second round draft pick. He played cornerback at Texas and many think he might be best suited as a free safety at the next level. He has good size and a great build, but lacks straight line speed. He was able to improve his 40 time on a fast track at his Texas Pro Day.
