Steelers 10/1 Odds To Sign Plaxico Burress

Wide receiver Plaxico Burress was released from the Oneida Correctional Facility in upstate New York today after serving a 20 month sentence for illegally carrying and firing a gun at a Manhattan nightclub back in 2008. The speculation has been running rampant for several weeks now as to which team Burress will ultimately sign with once the lockout is over. Burress has not played football since late November 2008 and thus has missed the last two full seasons in the process.

The odds maker Bodog released the updated odds today on where they best bet that the soon-to-be 34 year old receiver will play in 2011 and the Philadelphia Eagles are currently the favorites to do so with the odds being 3/2. The New York Jets are second with 3/1 odds followed by the St. Louis Rams (11/2), Washington Redskins (15/2) and Minnesota Vikings (15/2).

The Steelers, the team that drafted Burress way back in the first round of the 2000 NFL draft, are 6th on the odds list with 10/1 odds. The Steelers do not figure to be a big player in free agency once again per their consistent track record and one could assume the money that agent extraordinaire Drew Rosenhaus will be seeking to get for his client will be more than the Steelers will want to spend on a player that has been removed from the game for two years and has huge character concerns going forward. The Steelers are also well stocked at the receiver position with Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown, Antwaan Randle El, Arnaz Battle and Limas Sweed all currently under contract for the 2011 season.
