Report: Several Teams Show Interest In Willie Colon

Willie Colon SteelersIt has been a very busy day on the free agent market and one of the Steelers unrestricted free agents, tackle Willie Colon, is reportedly drawing quite a bit of interest from several teams on Wednesday.

Adam Caplan of FoxSports.com reported earlier today that the Seahawks, Bears and Bills all have interest in Colon, but the Bills interest is being refuted by a few people that cover the Bills closely. The Chiefs and Falcons are two other teams that are rumored to have inquired about Colon as well.

Colon is coming off an Achilles injury that cost him the entire 2010 season and his asking price is likely in the neighborhood of what left tackle Max Starks received back in 2009. Starks signed a $26.3 million, four-year contract that included $10 million in guaranteed money two years ago. Colon has said several times over the past several months that he would like to return to the Steelers, but the Steelers were willing to take the chance of letting him test the free agent market.

The only shot that Colon has at returning would be if he accepts a deal likely around $3 million a season. He is close to several teammates on the Steelers, including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, so it is still not totally out of the question he lowers his asking price to return. He might be getting a dose of reality today of what his market value is and I would expect him to sign somewhere by Thursday evening, but there is no guarantee in that.

For now it looks as if Colon is just getting his tires kicked today.
