Steelers 2010 Offensive Line Player Grades Breakdown

I was on Trib Live Radio yesterday morning with Ken Laird and was asked about my Steelers offensive line grading that I did last year for every week of the season. The discussion was centered around the recent moves the Steelers have made in releasing Max Starks and Flozell Adams and re-signing Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott. I was telling Laird how well I thought Scott did towards the end of 2010 and how I saw him really make improvement from when he first took over for Starks. I graded every play of every game last year and you can see the breakdown of each game by starting here. I go play by play and give a pass or fail on each lineman and break them down even further into run and pass plays.

Below are the cumulative grades of each lineman with their weekly overall grades. The total is at the bottom for each player. As you can see, Maurkice Pouncey graded out the highest followed by Ramon Foster and Adams. Scott finished with a 83% grade, but as you can see he came on late in the season with good grades against the Ravens, Jets and Packers in the playoffs. I think the Steelers saw enough improvement that they felt he was worth bringing back. He cost much less than Starks would and can keep the seat warm while rookie Marcus Gilbert slowly gets a grip on things.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • JD

Week 8 vs. New Orleans was pretty much horrible across the board. Don’t remember the details but they pretty much had their way with the o-line.

    yes indeed

  • Steve Duncan

Granted, I didn’t go back and break down the film, but I do not remember J. Scott looking even serviceable at any point last year. Too many times he either held or got pushed around. I am really nervous that they want to go into the season with him as an LT. Ben will get killed.
