Steelers Release T Flozell Adams

The Steelers started off Friday morning with a not so surprising roster move as they announced that veteran tackle Flozell Adams has been released. Adams was signed last offseason to a two year contract after tackle Willie Colon was lost for the season to an Achilles injury. Adams was scheduled to earn $5 million this season and his release carries no salary cap hit, because there was no signing bonus given in his contract. Adams reportedly was asked to take a pay cut, but refused to do so.

Adams became expendable after the Steelers agreed to terms yesterday with tackles Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott. Adams also made it known this offseason that he only wanted to return in 2011 if he could start. As it looks right now, the left tackle position likely is Scott\’s to lose with Colon likely slated to be the right tackle.

Although no longer Pro-Bowl caliber, Adams held his own at right tackle following his time in Dallas where he was a career left tackle. He played in nearly 1100 snaps over the course of the whole year and provided a few very memorable moments.
