Former Steelers RB Willie Parker Headed To The UFL

Former Steelers running back Willie Parker has announced via his Facebook page this morning that he is headed to play in the UFL this year and that he has not given up hope of returning to the NFL. Parker also thanked all of the fans for their love and support. Parker will play for the Virginia Destroyers.

Parker had a brilliant offseason social media campaign on both Twitter and Facebook and did several interviews this offseason in hopes of drumming up some interest from a team. Parker particularly noted his wish to return to Pittsburgh, but that ended up not coming to fruition.

Parker was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2004 after playing his college football at North Carolina. He spent 6 seasons with the Steelers and was not re-signed after his final year under contract. Parker was signed with the Redskins last offseason, but was released during the final roster cuts early last September.
