John Clay Walk-off Incident Called Misunderstanding With Coaches

Mark Kaboly and Ed Bouchette both report via Twitter that the Monday incident of undrafted rookie running back John Clay walking off the field was a simple misunderstanding by Clay. Reportedly running backs coach Kirby Wilson told Clay to leave after making a mistake and Clay thought he meant go to locker room.

Clay walked towards the lockerroom and was tracked down by a Steelers staffer and told to return. Clay returned for the end of drills and even ran with the running backs after practice and even did his daily duty of carrying in shoulder pads of teammates. With that out of the way now, Clay figures to get a few more weeks on Thursday night against the Eagles.

Clay came out of college a year early after thinking he would be drafted. The Wisconsin running back went undrafted and he signed on with the Steelers after the lockout ended.
