Report: Steelers Sign DB Macho Harris – UPDATE Brought In For Workout

Sean Kennedy of The Daily Press is reporting that the Steelers have signed former Virginia Tech defensive back Macho Harris today. Harris was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He was was waived by the Eagles on September 4th of last year and was signed by the Redskins on November 23rd of last year. He was waived on July 30, 2011 after just 3 games.

During his junior year at Virginia Tech, he was named a first team all-ACC selection. Harris has worked at both cornerback and safety during his short NFL career. There is no word of who was waived to make room for Harris on the 90 man roster. A possibility could be Baron Batch being placed on injured reserve today.

ETA: Mark Kaboly is refuting the report that Harris has signed and says that Harris is coming in for a work-out!!!

Depth in defensive backfield can’t hurt

Did the Steelers work him out or was he just signed off the street?

  • Ty

Well the good news is that he can play zone and catch the ball… He was the returner at VT which means he is also a damn good athlet

    YAHOOO WHAT AN ADDITION!!!

Harris wld be a great addition… tho most likely practice squad this year. I am really looking forward to see Carnell Lake’s influance on the Secondary. Certainly be nice to see if the DBs are coached to do more in coverage technique, and move away from the “tackle the catch” technique. Go Steelers!

does anyone know about the CB that is coming available in the sup draft?

  • Thomas

I don’t think I saw him make one lateral movement in that video but we can use a backup safety that can drop into the slot that isn’t special teams specialist should the worst happen.
