Steelers Starts Cuts With Release Of 5 Players & Place RB Batch On IR

The Steelers started the process today of pairing down their 90 man roster to the league mandated 80 players by Tuesday afternoon. Steelers Digest is reporting that the Steelers have waived tight end Vaughn Charlton, cornerback Kevin Dockery, wide receiver Eric Greenwood and wide receiver Kenneth Moore outright. They also waived/injured, tight end Miguel Chavis.

Charlton, Greenwood and Chavis were all signed as undrafted free agents following the lockout. Chavis was the most notable of the bunch as he was converted to tight end from defensive end later in training camp. He tore his left pectoral muscle late in the Steelers win against the Falcons last night. The Steelers will likely reach an injury settlement with him after he clears waivers.

Dockery and Moore are veterans and both were signed well after camp started. Moore was given a brief look as a return man and Dockery was signed because of all the injuries to the cornerback unit. Neither had a legitimate shot at making the 53 man roster.

The Steelers also place running back Baron Batch on injured reserve today.

The Steelers have 4 more roster moves to make by Tuesday.
