Season 2, Episode 10 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I discuss what has been a very quiet camp for the Steelers thus far. Fortunately there has only been one significant injury (to 7th round pick RB Baron Batch) and very little of the off-field drama that we have seen in seasons past. With such a veteran roster there really is only one starting position up for grabs, right guard, and probably only 3-5 roster spots on the 53-man roster open to competition. While it certainly makes for less news and intrigue, I\’m sure the Steelers would be prefer it be like this every year.
Since our last podcast he Steelers made two significant moves. Kevin Colbert and Omar Khan continue to pull rabbits out of hats and the Steelers were able to move forward and get a contract done with 2007 first round pick Lawrence Timmons. Dave has all the details on the 6-year, $50 million deal which means both of Mike Tomlin\’s first two picks as head coach are locked up long-term now. As we discussed with Ed Bouchette on Monday, Trai Essex was back on the South Side and ended up signing a one-year contract with the team. This certainly raises some red flags signaling the Steelers concern with their offensive line depth and we both discuss it.
We spend the rest of our time talking more about position battles and what we expect to see in the Steelers most meaningful exhibition game against the Atlanta Falcons at Heinz Field on Saturday night. Get our thoughts on guys like Cortez Allen, Bryant McFadden, John Gilmore, Mortty Ivy, Chris Scott and many more.
Thanks again for listening and we\’ll be back with our postgame thoughts on Episode 11 on Sunday or Monday.
