Report: Willie Colon Might Have Serious Triceps Injury

Adama Caplan is reporting that starting right tackle Willie Colon may have suffered a serious triceps injury against the Ravens yesterday. Caplan says according to two sources, Colon suffered an arm injury, which is believed to be in the triceps area. Head coach Mike Tomlin did not list Colon as a player injured during his post-game press conference, but that means absolutely nothing right now. Tomlin is not scheduled to meet the media again until Tuesday.

If indeed the Colon injury is serious, the Steelers might have to consider letting rookie Marcus Gilbert start at right tackle. Gilbert received playing time both there and at left tackle during the preseason and looks to be the obvious next man up. Flozell Adams also remains a candidate to be re-signed, but I think that they would give Gilbert the first crack at the spot. We will likely learn more about this injury to Colon as the day progresses.

If so, that is unfortunate and not good for a line already on fire. However, perhaps this will allow Gilbert to get enough playing time to actually develop in less than 3 years. A starting line of Scott-Kemo-Pouncey-Foster-Gilbert might shore up some of the issues?

I don’t really see how it could be any worse than what we saw last game.

    injury to insult

colon wasn’t a problem spot, at least not as much as jonathan scott. As much as I was hoping for Gilbert to get playing time, I was hoping for him to replace scott instead of colon.

I think Colon was probably the second best lineman on Sunday. However, that is a pretty low bar to jump over. I would also rather see Gilbert at left tackle, but I think right tackle is an easier position to play as a rookie. The line is just a wreck right now . . .

i hurt my triceps watching Legursky flail all day.

Agree completly with above… Maybe Gilbert at left tackle and use willie’s money to bring another old player back… Flozell :) Not like he could play any worse!

  • Steve Duncan

I am in favor of anything that results in J. Scott sitting on the bench. Preferably in another teams uni.

now i’m waiting for Essex to go down next..those two ride the bench more than they play..the way the offence play’s, they should have gone after some offensive line-men….
