Steelers Get Down To 53 With Release Of 5 More Players

The Steelers finished making their final roster cuts on Saturday with the release of 5 more players. The roster now stands at 53 players after offensive lineman Tony Hills, punter Jeremy Kapinos, cornerback Crezdon Butler, tight end John Gilmore and defensive end Jarrett Crittenton were released.

The Steelers released 21 players on Friday and placed quarterback Byron Leftwich on injured reserve. No surprise players were released yesterday. The Steelers will now put together their practice squad which will likely be announced late Sunday or Monday. Wide receiver Tyler Grisham is expected to be one of the players signed as he tweeted on Friday that he would return to the practice squad if he indeed clears waivers.

Would have liked to see Butler over Battle. With Cotchery in the fold, he may never see the field. Butler has the option of playing safety or corner. Ack…

I am confused by a couple, but I guess the FO knows what they are doing. C. Scott over Hills…Battle over Butler. 7 Dlineman over either Hills or Butler.

Disappointed Butler was not kept. Good luck to him. Hopefully, he makes the practice squad or is picked up by another team.
