Below are the Steelers formation & personnel rushing and passing stats from the week 8 game against the New England Patriots along with the year to date formation stats through the first 8 games of the 2011 season. I have disclaimered how we do the formation stats in previous post so you should know the drill by now. If you are just finding this info, please refer to the previous weeks post for clarification. Looking at the Patriots game from a personnel standpoint the Steelers used the 11 personnel package on 47 non-penalty plays. This of course means there were 3 wide receivers, 1 tight end and running back on the field. The Steelers split tight end Heath Miller out several times and this is shown in the formations as most of the 28 plays run out of the 10 formations. Also noted this week is the 18 empty set plays. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was 11 of 13 passing for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns out of the empty set this week. He was however sacked on the other 2 plays. Year to date Roethlisberger has been sacked 8 times out of empty set. Another 7 sacks have come with a running back behind Roethlisberger, but without a tight end kept down inside.
