2011 NFL Week 14 TOX Stats

Week 14 is now in the books and I have compiled the explosive plays and turnovers for the games this past week for our weekly look at the TOX stat. The plus 2 number went 7-2 this week with the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals being the two teams to lose. It should be noted the Bengals were seconds away from a win against the Houston Texans, but a loss, is a loss, is a loss.

Year to date in head to head games the plus 2 teams are now 110-28 and the winning percentage remains at the expected 80% number. Teams with a mere positive TOX stat went 11-3 this week. Teams with a positive turnover differential went 7-5 overall this week after going an amazing 14-0 last week. Teams with a positive explosive play differential went 8-4 this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers added to their year to date TOX number in week 14 and now have a plus 13 number. The 49ers added to their lead despite their loss to the Arizona Cardinals and now have a plus 32 and the Green Bay Packers have jumped all the way up to second place after their plus 9 TOX week against the Oakland Raiders. On the flip side, the Raiders now fall to negative TOX number year to date thanks to their minus 9 week.

The New England Patriots and their minus 6 TOX stat show you just how good their offense is and just how bad their passing defense is. Although not as bad, the New York Giants control their own destiny despite a minus 4 TOX stat. Both of these teams are primed to get knocked off in the playoffs in my opinion and I have a funny feeling the Giants will slip up and not even make it.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a mess this year. Last season they ended with a plus 23 TOX number and this season they sit in last with minus 36.

If you are just finding this, make sure to look back at the links below to get a better understanding of what the TOX stat actually is and how it works. Week 1 is a great place to start as it also includes a video explaining it all.
