Steelers Can Clinch Playoff Spot In Week 14 – 2011 Playoff Scenarios – Updated

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a chance to clinch a playoff spot in week 14 and it can happen with 3 different scenarios. The only spot they can clinch this upcoming week is the 6th seed in the AFC as it stands right now. They of course can improve on that going forward. Below are the 3 playoff spot clinching scenarios and they all 3 include them beating the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. All 3 also include the Cincinnati Bengals losing in week 14 to the Houston Texans. The most likeliest scenario to happen in my opinion is #2. Should that one come to fruition, the Steelers would be 10-3 and the Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and Bengals would all be 7-6. The Steelers would own tie breakers over all 3.

Updated: It seems the Denver Broncos play into two of the scenarios as well and I have added them.

Scenario #1
Steelers beat the Browns, and
Packers beat the Raiders, and
Bears beat the Broncos, and
Chiefs beat the Jets, and
Texans beat the Bengals

Scenario #2
Steelers beat the Browns, and
Packers beat the Raiders, and
Bears beat the Broncos, and
Saints beat the Titans, and
Texans beat the Bengals

Scenario #3
Steelers beat the Browns, and
Chiefs beat the Jets, and
Saints beat the Titans, and
Texans beat the Bengals

So essentially it is Steelers Win, Bengals loss and 2 of Titans, Raiders, Jets losing. Surprised Denver does not factor into this at all.

  • Ropok

we need the Bengals to win out So they have something to play for in Week 17

Actually you missed the scenario that actually happened. Oakland, Houston, and the Bengals lost. Now PBurgh has tie breakers over all three if PBurgh lost all three and they won all three. If Oakland won the west that would mean Denver lost won and PBurgh has common game tie-breaker on them. Leaving the Jets to be the only team to beat them for the wild card, being that there are two wild cards PBurgh has clinched the playoff.

Um Houston won. The Steelers have not clinched. There is a scenario you have missed that has the Raiders winning division and Broncos winning common opponent breaker.

I can’t see why we haven’t yet clinched a playoff spot. The only way for the Raiders to win the division and be 10-6 is for the Broncos to lose to KC. So, how can we end up with the same record as the Broncos and lose the common opponent tiebreaker?

  • Tommy in SC

I don’t think the Steelers can lose common opponents tie-breaker to Denver. Pitt is 4-0 vs Tenn, Cinci and KC. The best Broncos can do is 3-1 (they lost to Tenn).

  • Tommy in SC

You’re correct. Steelers have clinched a playoff spot but nobody but us seems to know it…
