Season 2, Episode 55 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I dive right into the Tuesday Mike Tomlin press conference and go over the Steelers injury situation as they head into the long week. Does Ben Roethlisberger really have to practice this week to play Monday night? Tomlin told the 49ers media something totally different in his conference call on Wednesday. Is Emmanuel Sanders really going to play this week? We have our concerns.
We move on to talk about the one game suspension of linebacker James Harrison and how Tomlin handled it differently than the fine handed down to Ryan Clark several weeks ago. Was the suspension justified? Our final look at it might surprise you and ruffle your feathers. Some good banter between David and myself on Harrison and we both agree that a few rule changes might be in order. In the end Harrison was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The hit to the head of Colt McCoy was the icing on the cake as it goes against the current rules as wrong as they might be. Yes they need to look closer at this and perhaps rule out all helmet shots on quarterbacks or make them free game outside the tackle box.
We get to a listeners email and talk about a couple of Steelers players on defense that are still not getting talked about enough in our opinion, before moving into our initial talk about the Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers. We banter a little before we are joined by Matt Barrows, the 49ers beat writer for the Sacramento Bee. We get the latest from the Tomlin conference call from Matt and get an early injury report of sorts before asking him various questions about the 49ers offense and defense. We get his insight on the play this season of quarterback Alex Smith and various other 49ers players in addition. The instant success of head coach Jim Harbaugh is also asked about and Matt shares his insight on how he has the 49ers on top of the NFC West so quickly. We get a quick prediction out of Matt before cutting him loose.
