Jonathan Dwyer In Final Week Of Rehab For His Surgically Repaired Left Foot

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer posted today on Twitter that he is in his last week of rehab, presumably for his broken left foot that he suffered late in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals in week 13. The foot required surgery and Dwyer was placed on injured reserve in the early part of December as a result. When he finishes up his rehab he will be off to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia for the offseason according to his Twitter feed.

The Steelers former 2010 6th round draft pick dressed for 7 games in 2011 and carried the ball 16 times for 123 yards. His most extensive action came in week 5 against the Tennessee Titans as he carried 11 times for 107 yards. In that game he had a nice 76 yard run on a counter play to the right side. Dwyer also showed noticeable improvement in his blitz pickup and recognition in that game as well.

Dwyer heads into the final year of his rookie contract next season and will face stiff competition for a roster spot in the form of 2011 7th round draft pick Baron Batch, 2011 undrafted free agent John Clay and whatever other running backs that will be at training camp. It is good to hear that he is close to finishing his rehab and it sounds like he will indeed be a go for the Steelers mini camps and OTA sessions.
