Report: Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey Will Not Play Versus Broncos In AFC Wild Card Game

Gerry Dulac reports this morning via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey will not play Sunday against the Denver Broncos in the AFC wild card game after aggravating his left ankle in practice this week.

Pouncey injured the ankle Pouncey in the home win against the Cleveland Browns in week 14 Browns and missed the next two games as a result. He returned to the play this past Sunday for the regular-season finale in Cleveland, but suffered a setback at practice Wednesday when he aggravated the injury. He did not practice on Thursday as a result.

Pouncey\’s injured left ankle is the same one that he hurt late last season in the AFC Championship Game against the New York Jets and that forced him to miss Super Bowl XLV as a result. Pouncey said Thursday, “It\’s just something I have to deal with. It\’s something that\’s really, really stressful for me. It\’s just an old injury. I\’m just re-aggravating before it heals all the way.”

With Pouncey now out the guard Doug Legursky will start at center and Chris Kemoeatu will start at left guard. Legursky missed the game last week with a shoulder injury suffered early in the week 16 game against the St. Louis Rams.
