Steelers Promote RB Chad Spann To 53 Man Roster, Sign RB Albert Young To Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers have promoted running back Chad Spann to the 53 man roster on Tuesday from the practice squad and signed running back Albert Young to the vacant spot on the practice squad. There is no word as of yet to what the corresponding roster move from the 53 man roster was to make room for Spann.

Spann was originally signed to the Steelers practice squad on the 12th of December after he spent time with the Colts and the Buccaneers. He was undrafted in 2011 and played his college ball at Northern Illinios. He measures in at almost 5 foot 8 and weighs 201 pounds and played all four seasons at Northern Illinois University where he racked up 2,916 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns on 536 carries.

Young was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2008 after he played his college football at Iowa. He spent three seasons with Minnesota and has played in 10 career games, with 25 carries for 82 yards. He played in three games in 2010 before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He spent the late part of this past preseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but was released prior to the start of the season.

The move to sign Spann signifies that running back Mewelde Moore will not play Sunday in Denver. The Steelers lack depth at the position due to the ACL injury suffered by Rashard Mendenhall this past week against the Cleveland Browns.
