The Terrible Podcast – Chris Hoke Interview Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 73 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I jump right into the continued offensive coordinator search by the Pittsburgh Steelers along with the news that linebackers coach Keith Butler has decided to stay with the Steelers instead of heading off to the Indianapolis Colts to become their new defensive coordinator. We discuss what Butler may or may not been offered and guaranteed to stay in Pittsburgh to be the successor to Dick LeBeau. Todd Haley and Alex Van Pelt are the latest names to surface that head coach Mike Tomlin might be checking into and we wonder if this is any indication that Randy Fichtner might not be promoted after all. A little more offensive coordinator talk follows before we move on.

Next David and I move on to talk about the Pro Bowl game this past Sunday and discuss if the NFL can do anything better as far as the annual All-Star game goes. David admits to not to watching the whole game and I tell him that it actually got better in the second half. We still think it lacks something and we throw it out to the listeners to get their ideas. Next it is on to the Senior Bowl and little talk about by first Steelers 2012 mock draft that I released earlier this week.

We end the episode with my interview with the recently retired Steelers nose tackle Chris Hoke. Chris answers a number of questions about his 11 years with the black and gold and discusses the influence he has had on the young players and defensive linemen on the roster. We talk about his early days with the Steelers and how he used to start fights to get noticed early on and which Steelers players helped him the most when he was trying to make the team. Chris tells us about his stinger and neck problems led to his retirement and we ask him to dispel the speculation that the Steelers will move to a 4-3 defense from a 3-4 and that Ziggy Hood will move to nose tackle if Casey Hampton does not return. We also talk with him about his future plans after retirement that could include coaching and media. Chris always has been great with the media and did not disappoint as you will hear in this interview.
