The Terrible Podcast – Steelers New Offensive Coordinator Talk & Marshall McFadden Interview Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 70 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I get right to the busy Friday the Pittsburgh Steelers had. We discuss the news of Bruce Arians not coming back in 2012 as the offensive coordinator and ponder if he was forced out or indeed retired. We try to bring you both sides objectively per our usual. After that we get right into the talking about who the Steelers next offensive coordinator will be and discuss the obvious candidates I posted earlier today. Who is the best fit? I rank them and we give our thoughts on Randy Fichtner, Tom Clements, Jim Caldwell, Hue Jackson and Todd Haley.

While Arians had his warts, we throw around some deserved blame to the offensive line and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as well and it makes for a great discussion. We transition into the latest players that signed future contracts that were announced on Friday before shifting into talk if the offense or defense needs addressing more in the offseason via the draft. We talk offensive line, linebackers, defensive line and safety positions right now.

We talk about the AFC & NFC Championship games coming up on Sunday and give our predictions on both before getting to my interview with inside linebacker Marshall McFadden. McFadden was signed to a futures contract by the Steelers and played his college ball at South Carolina State. Marshall talks about his path to the NFL and the Steelers and about his play in college. He sounds really excited about being a member of the Steelers and is really looking to show he can crack the 53 man roster in training camp. We thank him for his time today and you can follow him on Twitter at @MMcFadden5 and welcome him to Steeler Nation. The McFadden interview begins at the 48:17 mark in the audio.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • Pmschwenzfeier

    Jim Caldwell it should/will be!

  • LetsGetItN

I would like to have either Tom Clement, or Hue Jackson, or Caldwell, i’ve been saying we should go to the west coast offense for the last 2 years, because we have the players for that type of system, Redman or Mendy would be a beast in that system, man i hope Tomlin get’s it right this time…Who ever the new OC please get a REAL FB and get rid of that 3 tigth end garbage, that was a epic fail for the last 5 years.

  • Scatter

I’d prefer Jackson or Caldwell rather than an in-house hire. A previous relationship between Ben and the new OC will continue the destructive pattern of Ben exerting dominance and retaining the status quo rather than having an OC who comes in fresh without the psychological baggage of watching Arians dragging around Ben’s ego for 5 years.

Ben NEEDS to improve.Period. He’s become comfortable to the point of staleness. He needs to be challenged, and that’s not going to happen under an OC who’s already on the staff and has become accustomed to knuckling under to Ben, as has been the case for quite some time now.

I love Ben. But he’s not elite yet, and he never will be until he’s forced to work harder.
