Here we go again. Jason Cole from Yahoo Sports reported tonight via Twitter that both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants might have interest in unrestricted free agent Plaxico Burress. Burress signed a one-year deal late last July with the New York Jets after making a free agent visit to Pittsburgh. The Jets paid Burress $3.017 million last season after he spent two years in prison on a gun conviction. Burress played in all 16 games last season for the Jets and recorded 45 catches for 612 yards to go along with 8 touchdowns.

Wednesday is a Leap Day that will never be forgotten in the eyes of many Pittsburgh Steelers fans as it will be remembered as the day that we all officially found out that veteran wide receiver Hines Ward would be released after 14 seasons of wearing the black and gold. Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette reports that sources told him that Ward was not offered a pay-cut to stay and you can see that this was never about the money for the Steelers. Instead it was about whether or not they thought Ward fit into their plans going forward. Obviously they didn't. Several of you do not like the decision

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that they will be releasing veteran wide receiver Hines Ward after 14 seasons with the team. Ward has already released statement in which he thanks the organization, teammates and Mr. Rooney. He says that he did not want his time in Pittsburgh to ends this way and that he still looks forward to playing in the NFL this upcoming season.
Hines Ward Statement Following Release Notification
This isn't how I wanted this chapter of my career to end. I did everything in my power to remain a Steeler and finish what I started here 14 years ago. I want

Steelers.com is reporting this afternoon that the Pittsburgh Steelers will be releasing veteran wide receiver Hines Ward prior to the start of the 2012 NFL calendar which is a week from Tuesday. It has long been speculated following the end of the 2011 season that Ward would not be retained in 2012. Steelers President Art Rooney II told the Steelers.com. "Hines has been an integral part of our success since we drafted him in 1998 and we will forever be grateful for what he has helped us achieve. It was announced earlier on Wednesday that the Pittsburgh Steelers had hired Shaun Sarrett as their new offensive quality control coach to replace Harold Goodwin, who left to become the new offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts several weeks ago. Since that news was announced I have received quite a few questions as to what the job is of the offensive quality control coach.
Jeff Legwold from The Denver Post did a great job answering this question over a year ago. Basically a quality control coach is an assistant to the position coaches. For the Steelers that would mean he would answer

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced today via Twitter that they have hired Shaun Sarrett as their new offensive quality control coach. Sarrett fills the position that became open when Harold Goodwin left to become the new offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts.
Sarrett had been on the staff of the Duke University coaching staff since 2008 where he served as their offensive quality control coach. Prior to being hired by Duke he served as a graduate assistant at Marshall University and before that he served as an offensive and defensive line coach at Streetsboro High School in Streetsboro,

Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe blew it up this past week at the NFL combine and he might very well be a better fit in a 4-3 defense initially according to Len Pasquarelli.
Bruce Feldman writes that he was told by a coach that faced Poe this past season said he is a freakish athlete, but took more than his share of plays off.
Bob Labriola has his latest segment of Asked and Answered up on steelers.com as covers questions asked about Heinz Field, Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith and Mike Wallace.
Speaking of Wallace, Bill Barnwell has a great free agent preview up on him over at Grantland.

The 2012 NFL combine has come and gone and now the next key date on the 2012 NFL calendar for the Pittsburgh Steelers is March 5th, as that is the deadline for the restricted tenders and franchise tag to be issued.
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert told the media during his press conference at the combine that they were still waiting to hear what the official cap number will be for 2012, and that will dictate the moves that will need to be made to be cap compliant by March 13th. The team has already reportedly tendered Isaac Redman, Steve McLendon and Jeremy Kapinos, their three exclusive

Let me start this post off by saying that I am a huge fan of Pat Kirwan. For those that do not know it, he is the co-host of the show Movin' The Chains on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Before his radio gig, Kirwan spent eight years with the New York Jets, beginning as a defensive assistant coach and advancing to director of player administration, where he negotiated contracts and managed the team's salary cap. Before that he was an area scout for the Phoenix Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has also authored a fantastic book called Take Your Eye Off the Ball that I really suggest everyone read.

It was announced on Tuesday that the first game of 2012 NFL regular season will be played on Wednesday, September 5th at at MetLife Stadium as to avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s Thursday night speech at the Democratic National Convention. The Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants will be the home team of course and the speculation has been rampant as to who they will play.
When you look at the Giants 2012 opponents that they will play at home in 2012, you will see that they are scheduled to host the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints,

Season 2, Episode 81 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I jump right intothe 2012 NFL combine after we talk about a few current stories in regards to the 2012 salary cap. We discuss several of the players performances at the combine that the Steelers likely have their eyes on early in the draft and that of course includes Dontari Poe, Dont'a Hightower, Cordy Glenn and a few others. We discuss the latest article from Pat Kirwan as it relates to David DeCastro and wonder how far he could end up falling in the first round. I also cover the rating system that Kirwan likes to use that

It is no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers have a very important draft ahead of them on April 22nd. I will take it a step further and insist that this draft could impact their success not only in 2012, but likely 2013. With the condition of Pittsburgh’s current roster salary, this draft could be important to the team’s cap stability if they can draft players who are able to step in and start. It has been speculated that Pittsburgh will let many of their veterans test the free agency market in an effort to save cap this upcoming season. What accompanies this is the

All the eyes of Steeler Nation were fixed firmly upon Memphis nose tackle Dontari Poe this week at the 2012 NFL Combine and with good reason. The Steelers will certainly be in the market for a young nose tackle during the 2012 NFL draft and Poe certainly seems to fit the bill of what they will be looking for.
You have likely heard over the last few weeks that Poe best resembles Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, not only in build and measurables, but also in his style of play. That comparison is certainly justified.
The defensive linemen have now finished their on the field work

When Dontari Poe (defensive tackle) out of Memphis bench-pressed 225 pounds 44 times on Sunday at the 2012 NFL Combine, he had a lot of eyes on him. Five reps short of the all-time record set by Stephen Paea proved that Poe is strong. It was his unofficial 4.87 first-attempt in the 40 that had phones ringing, and he followed it with a 4.94. Poe can bench-press 500 pounds and squats 700. Poe's potential worth after a strong combine showing may have just thrust him forward as one of the top prospects in this year's draft.
Poe's size, strength and speed would improve any

The Pittsburgh Steelers could possibly be interested in University of Cincinnati running back Isaiah Pead as was reported on Steelers Depot on Saturday. Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer indicated through Twitter that Pead had received “strong interest” from the Steelers. With the injury to Rashard Mendenhall and the unproven nature of the other Steelers’ running backs outside of Isaac Redman, it is possible that Pead could be a target in this year’s draft.
At the NFL Combine this weekend, Pead measured in at 5’10 and weighed 197 pounds, which is lighter than
