Season 2, Episode 78 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I dive right into the hot topics and news this week. We start off with a lengthy discussion centered around the pending free agency of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace and cover a lot of scenarios I posted on Thursday. We talk about what teams might be interested in Wallace if they feel him worthy of a first round pick should Wallace only receive a first round tender instead of the franchise tag. We cover how another team like the New England Patriots or the Cincinnati Bengals could front load their offer sheet with a large roster bonus that would make it virtually impossible for the Steelers to match based on their salary cap problems. David ask me how I think it will play out and I give my best educated guess as we sit here in February.
Next we move on to look at where the Steelers are at salary cap wise and the game plan as it relates to the countdown to the start of the new league year. After that we touch back on the Art Rooney II meddlesome owner topic that he tried to dispel this week in his interviews. We hit on the Ben Roethlisberger and Todd Haley saga that continues on and wonder if they still have not sat down or called each other just yet. We also discuss how GM Kevin Colbert toted the company line real nice this week in all of his interviews.
We move on to discuss the report that said Willie Colon will not take a pay-cut this year and I defend him for not doing it despite his injuries these last two seasons. Tune in to hear my defense. As we take a few reader emails, we discuss how different of an attitude Steeler Nation would have right now against defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau had Haley and the Arizona Cardinals beaten the Steelers in Super Bowl XLII. What if the Kurt Warner to Larry Fitzgerald touchdown held up late. Somehow it ends with us talking about butterflies flapping their wings. This discussion results from one of our reader emails.
