The Terrible Podcast – Talking Ward, Cotchery, Wallace, Mendenhall & Hampton Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 77 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with David Todd back in the hosting chair we have quite a bit to talk about as the Steelers are still making a lot of news in the early part of the offseason. We start with the continuing drama surrounding the situation of Hines Ward and how the media are dealing with it. We discuss what the Steelers do and do not owe Ward right now with the decision of his future status still likely a few weeks away. Jerricho Cotchery is also back in the news after stating again on Monday how he hopes to return to the Steelers in 2012. We discuss the possibility of that indeed happening based on his 2011 performance. Both David and I hope he does indeed return. Mixed in with the talk of Ward and Cotchery we discuss Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders and Mike Wallace. What will the addition of new offensive coordinator Todd Haley mean to them from a discipline and coaching standpoint. We also discuss the possibility of the Steelers placing the franchise tag on Wallace instead of a first round tender and the economics and benefits of doing so.

Rashard Mendenhall and Casey Hampton are also talking points today after Steelers GM Kevin Colbert acknowledged on Monday that both are very likely candidates to start the season on the PUP list. We clarify the rules of the PUP list and the future of both heading into the 2012 season. Is the running back position a high priority now in the draft as some are suggesting that it is? We give our thoughts on that as well. We even have time to take a quick reader question on Jason Worilds in addition. The show makes for nearly an hour of hard Steelers discussion and we hope you enjoy it.

There was something said today on 93.7 the fan that frames the WRs discussion. Jason La Confora of the NFL Network said that the free-agent WR pool is pretty deep this year and he didn’t think there would be much demand for a player like Cotchery. If it is easy to get our hands on him, I think Hines needs to go. Also, I would tender Wallace instead of franchise him since the WR pool in the draft is deep.
