2012 Draft

Report: Mike Tomlin & Kevin Colbert All Over Michigan State FS Trent Robinson At Pro Day

Not only did Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin seem interested in Michigan Sate quarterback Kirk Cousins while attending in town for the MSU pro day, but Tony Pauline reports today via Twitter that both Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert were all over safety Trent Robinson on Wednesday as well. Of course we will have to wait and see if Pauline expands on that in his daily pro day write up, but the Steelers certainly could be looking at a later round safety to draft in April.

Robinson measured in at the NFL combine last month at 5096 and weighed 195 pounds. He had a 31 1/2 arm length and posted an unofficial 40 yard dash time of 4.52 seconds. He did 15 reps of 225 pounds on the bench and posted a 35 inch vertical jump to go along with a 10\’5 broad jump. Robinson was a four-year letter winner at MSU and had 229 tackles, nine interceptions and 12 pass break-ups in 46 career games at free safety where he started 32 games. He was credited with 80 tackles his senior season.

Robinson is regarded as a physical safety physically that is not afraid to help in run support and he possesses good footwork and hip movement in coverage. He is currently regarded as a 4th or 5th round prospect and could indeed be in-line for a pre draft visit to Pittsburgh in the coming weeks.

I will update this post with more information when the full pro daily reports from MSU come in.

Trent Robinson, FS (5-9 7/8, 193) — He ran 4.42 and 4.43 in the 40. He had a 4.28 short shuttle and 7.08 cone drill. He looked good in position drills, showing really good feet. There’s some question if he can be a cornerback in the NFL. He came to college as a corner and was moved to safety.
