Report: Steelers Free Agent Wide Receiver Jerricho Cotchery To Visit Rams Next Week

Manish Mehta from the New York Daily News reports Friday on Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery will visit the St. Louis Rams on either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Cotchery has a link to the Rams as their new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was the New York Jets offensive coordinator during the time that Cotchery played in New York.

Cotchery reportedly has made at least one other free agent visit to the Kansas City Chiefs since the free agency signing period began and the Jets reportedly had some initial interest in him returning to New York as well, but that interest has now seemed to have waned. Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert has mentioned several times this offseason that they hoped to bring Cotchery back in 2012.

Cotchery was signed by the Steelers adfter the start of training camp last year and caught 16 passes for 237 yards and 2 touchdowns during the regular season. Cotchery was hampered by a hamstring injury early on the season, but ended up playing just over 300 snaps on offense once he recovered fully. The Steelers would likely want him as a their 4th wide receiver in 2012.

Keeping Cotchery is important because of the likelihood that Sanders will be hurt. Also I think one could argue that he’s better than Sanders.

A “wide reciter”?! Among Mr. Cotchery’s many skills, I had no idea he was also a big public speaker.

The Steelers would suddenly be awfully thin at WR if Cotchery leaves. Unless his asking price is too high, it makes sense to me that you’d want to make a push to retain him – he’s been around, he’s a high character guy, he came on at the end of the year, etc.

  • It seems like everything is in a holding pattern, until April 20th.

I don’t understand why they haven’t signed cotchery back yet…….. Unless he wants to much money I know he wants a long term deal but that shouldn’t be a problem seeming it wouldnt cost them much at all they need him for leadership to these young guys….. I say a 3 yr. deal worth 1 mill a yr. would do it with a little signing bonus……..

If we cant sign Cotchery, I wonder if Hines will come back?
