The Terrible Podcast – 2012 Free Agency Preview Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 86 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with David Todd dive right into the free agency talk as the new league year begins at 4 p.m. eastern today. We talk about the signing of Randy Moss by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday and how this lessens the chance even more that Mike Wallace will receive an offer sheet from another team. We touch on Peyton Manning once again and speculate what the Denver Broncos might do with Tim Tebow if they indeed are able to sign Manning.

We move onto the tenders handed out by the Steelers on Monday and are surprised that so many people seem to be floored that Doug Legursky and Ramon Foster did not receive second round tenders. It just made no sense to do so. We talk about the Steelers cap situation now after the tenders have been handed out and the additional $1.6 plus million in cap space was added thanks to the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys actions in the uncapped year. We dive into the decision that was made to strip both those teams of cap space and I let David know that i do not think the decision passes the smell test. Will Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder sue? You know damn well that Al Davis would.

We move on to talk about the comments that Ryan Clark made Monday evening on NFL Total Access in regards to Spygate being worse than Bountygate. Do you agree with Ryan and we also ask if we should have been “morally outraged” because of Spygate? If you remember, that was our hot term we used when the Spygate news broke so we went retroactive with it.

It is after all free agency time now, so we take several questions from our listeners and talk about players like Mike Tolbert, Brandon Jacobs, Curtis Lofton, Eric Winston, Steve Hutchinson and more more players that in our opinion have no shot at landing in Pittsburgh. We caution everyone that per the norm, the Steelers will not be active in free agency and most likely will be looking for bargains at the nose tackle, inside linebacker and tight end positions if any are added at all.

We discuss the New Orleans Saints re-signing of receiver Marques Colston, as that news breaks during the podcast as well. We finish with one last question about the salary cap from a reader before closing out the show.

We will be back on Wednesday with another special free agency podcast and we will discuss the early movement around the NFL. We hope to have a guest on as well.
