Report: Jerricho Cotchery Two Year Deal Worth $3 Million

Immediately after it was announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery to a two year deal I speculated on Twitter that I would be surprsiede if the contract totaled out over $3 million. Ed Bouchette tweets tonight that the deal does indeed total out at $3 million.

While we do not know the exact break down yet of the deal, I can speculate that the 2012 base salary for Cotchery is $825,000 with the second year base salary being $940,000. That in itself totals out to be $1.765 million. The signing bonus likely was around $1 million, so there might be a roster bonus included in the second year of the deal. Basing everything on speculation of the breakdown above, that would make the 2012 salary cap charge on Cotchery roughly around $1.325 million.

As soon as I get the full breakdown from the NFLPA I will pass along the numbers.

you psychic or something man, lol. This seems to be a fair deal. Cotch prob could have got more money elsewhere, but would have had to play for the rams. He would have probably been in the same situation in KC playing behind Bowe, Breaston, and Baldwin.

  • Last I heard, the team was $10.5M over the cap, with $9M worth of RFA tenders waiting to be signed. Factor in the deal Cotchery signed, along with what I will assume is a vet minimum deal for Pope, and it looks like the Steelers may be tapped out. Now tie that in with your prior post about Wallace, and it’s beginning to look more and more likely that the team may be looking to shop Wallace.

Not bad he’s worth it……. I don’t think David Johnson is worth 1.26 million hope he doesn’t make the team……

I believe we were 5.8 million over the cap before Cotchery and Pope’s signings….. That included the tenders to all the players including Wallace….. So now were sitting a little over 4 million…… With that probably going to the players out of the draft….. Not really much money left to do anything with…… I see them signing Batch or Leftwich at veteran min. and that be about it for the yr…… But also remember Johnathan Scott 2.2 million contract probably will be cut so that will free that up and possibly will allen I believe around 1.28…….. They just need to draft smart and our needs and we will be ok…… But doesn’t leave much money to resign Wallace so I doubt he get’s a big first yr. salary cap hit number so I see him walking at end of yr. But who know’s
