Steelers Bring In Mississippi Tackle Bobby Massie For Pre Draft Visit

Another day and another pre draft visitor is in town for a visit as Scott Brown reports via Twitter that University of Mississippi tackle Bobby Massie is visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.

Massie decided to enter the draft after his junior season where he started 29 consecutive games for the Rebels at right tackle. At the NFL combine he measured in at 6061 and weighed 316 pounds. He has 35 inch arms and 9 inch hands. He ran an unofficial 40 yard dash time of 5.23 seconds and put up 22 reps on the bench. He showed his agility with a 4.95 seconds short shuttle time and his vertical jump was measured at 27.5 inches.

On tape Massie handles speed rushers moderately well and shows good footwork on the edge. He is very agile for a player his size, but is raw overall in his pass protection as doesn\'t always use his long arms and hands to his advantage. Run blocking is his strong suit as he is able to use his size to maul defenders. He has also shown the ability to get to the second level effectively when asked to do so. Massie projects initially as a right tackle at the next level. He is currently projected to be drafted somewhere between rounds 2 and 4.

Below are some video highlights of Massie in action against Alabama.

Kiper has Massie as the #3 OT is the whole draft, ahead of Adams and even Martin.

Bobby Massie is a joke! His character is awful and he’s no good on the field either. As a high school senior he changed his mind on what school he wanted to attend seemingly 35 times and then he could not even qualify for most school. Once in college he was hugely overrated. I don’t know who the guy knows that is getting his name out there so well and making people believe he is great, but whoever that guy is deserves to be a millionaire much more than Massie. I would not draft the guy if the draft had 70 rounds, much less 7 rounds! Mark my words, if drafted Bobby Massie will not make 1st cut in any NFL camp.

This tape looks like its highlighting how good Donta Hightower , Courtney Upshaw & Mark Baron are…

Fourth best OT in this draft.
I rank them Kalil, Reiff, Martin, Massie and then Mitchell Schwartz.

Where do you have Mike Adams? I gather from your list that you think it’d be a mistake for the Steelers to take him in Round One (or even Round Two!).

Hebron Fangupo shifted around a lot, but lined over him quite a few snaps as a DE in the BYU game vs them, and absolutely crushed him on numerous plays.

I’d love to have Fangupo in the 4th or 5th. I’d hate to have Massie in the first 3. Blown up ridiculously by a “mid-late round 3-4 NT”

Evidence that Kiper does not watch enough tape.

Bobby Massie will be All-Pro at right tackle by his 2nd year in the league. I don’t care when he is drafted, I guarantee you there will be a lot of teams who will regret not drafting him.
