Steelers Host WR Stephen Hill & T Mitchell Schwartz Tuesday For Pre Draft Visits

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Tuesday that Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill and California offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz are in town for pre draft visits.

Hill measured in at the NFL combine at 6036 and weighed 215 pounds. He reportedly ran a 4.36 40 time to go along with a 4.48 short shuttle time. He put up 14 reps on the bench and had a vertical jump of 39 1/2 inches to go along with a 11\’01” broad jump. He is a raw route runner that has both the length and speed to play at the next level. He uses his physical nature to separate quickly off of the line of scrimmage and is not afraid to block on running plays. He can work both inside and on the edge and tracks the ball well in flight as he uses his body to shield defenders. Hill is currently rated as a late first round or early second round prospect.

Schwartz measures in at 6051 and weighs 318 pounds. He ran a 5.45 40 time at the combine to go along with a 4.87 short shuttle time. He put 23 reps on the bench and posted a 26 1/2 vertical jump to go along with a 7\’05” broad jump. He is not an overly physical lineman, but did play on both sides during his career at California. On tape his agility is evident and is good getting to the second level. He does redirect well in pass protection and is able to hand off well on switches. He projects as a right tackle at the next level that could kick inside should the need arise due to his mobility and short area quickness.

Well if they draft hill ,say goodbye to mike wallace.

  • I’ll take Stephen Hill. Can’t deny the impact that the GT WR’s have had in the NFL. I don’t think Hill would have a problem replacing Wallace, if he decides to walk. If Wallace doesn’t walk, then the Steelers will have a freakish WR corps for years to come.

  • Probably, but it would be pretty sick seeing Hill and Wallace lined up on opposite sides of the field.

I came away very impressed with Mitchell Schwartz in his matchup against Nick Perry. Not as impressive against Texas and their complex blitz schemes. Could be a good RT in a couple years, from what I can tell.

What round grade would you give him? I was thinking 3rd or 4th.

With the way the Steelers develop WRs, Hill would be a beast! I would prefer use to take Fleener over Hill though. Hill is a very good run blocker though, has a lot of potential, Fleener is a safer pick, but with the people we are bring in, I think the Steelers are truly looking at BPA @ 24.

    1st Rounder Visits:
    1. Stephen Hill WR
    2. Don’ta Hightower ILB
    3. Mike Adams OT
    4. Nick Perry OLB
    5. Courtney Upshaw OLB

*The were at Stanford Pro day, so could have looked at Fleener & Martin.

Tomlin has set it before, there are two ways to keep Ben from getting sacked so much, get a better line, or get more weapons. He uses the same logic on defense, sack the QB and you don’t have to worry about elite CBs. Adding weapons on Offense is a must in the way the league is moving. Dave’s last mock draft is a perfect example of how this strategy could work in the draft.

I wouldn’t mind them drafting Hill in 1st round if they do that, Then I think they will be probably thinking that this is Wallace’s last yr…… No Fleener yet so I take it that maybe the Steelers aren’t intersted…..

drafting ANOTHER burner WR and limiting his ability 8 weeks a year…

    *sigh*

Take the Hill. Nice. Speed and size. That is like a bigger fast H Ward.
    Hills best time was 4.28

    For comparison
    Wallace 40 times were 4.28 Low: 4.22 High: 4.39
    Height: 6-1 Weight: 199

  • AMEN!
