Steelers Release RB Chad Spann & CB Antonio Smith

I had a feeling that a few corresponding roster moves might be on the way soon as the Pittsburgh Steelers roster was over 90 players after the undrafted free agents had been identified. That indeed was the case on Wednesday as Mark Kaboly reports via Twitter that running back Chad Spann and cornerback Antonio Smith have now been released.

Spann was signed to the Steelers practice squad in mid December of last season and was promoted to the active roster for the AFC Wild Card game against the Denver Broncos after Rashard Mendenhall was lost for the season in the season finale against the Cleveland Browns.

Smith had been signed to a futures contract after the Steelers season had ended and his stay on the roster was a short one. He was originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2007 and also had been a member of the Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals in addition.
