The Terrible Podcast – Talking Mini-Camp Day One, Offensive Line & Wide Receivers Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 116 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I start off by discussing the start of the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers mandatory mini-camp that got underway in Pittsburgh today. We go over who practiced and who didn\’t according to the early media reports and where rookies David DeCastro and Mike Adams lined up now that they are allowed to practice after both missed the entire slate of OTA sessions due to school requirements. We also discuss the move of seventh round draft pick Kelvin Beachum from tackle to guard and why it isnt too big of surprise. We also look at the chances of Beachum or another young offensive lineman actually making the 53 man roster.

The Steelers signed veteran free agent long snapper Matt Katula to the roster on Tuesday according to his agent and we do not consider that a surprise being as Katula worked out for the team last month and the Steelers normally carry two long snappers early on in training camp. The question remains who was sent packing on the back end of the roster move.

Wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery talked about his top four wide receivers last week and we break down the comments he made concerning Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery.

Sean Spence seems to be a talking point once again and despite the great comments on him coming out of the OTA sessions, we both think that there is zero chance he starts week one like Kendrell Bell did as a rookie back in 2001 baring injuries. The Bell situation was much different and I explain it during our discussion.

We wrap up various other loose ends before turning our attention to Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy and the recent comments he made on The Dan Patrick Show concerning his future and the hit that James Harrison had on him last year. We also look at a few recent moves made by the Baltimore Ravens since the last episode and discuss if Chad Ochocinco is a good fit with the Miami Dolphins or not. Will he make their 53 man roster? David and I disagree on our opinions, but at least it should make Hard Knocks more interesting as a result.

We will be back on Friday to wrap up the Steelers mini camp and start looking forward to training camp which begins at the end of July.
