Former Steelers 2010 5th Round Draft Pick Crezdon Butler Cut By Cardinals

Final cuts from around the league have been trickling in all afternoon and one that caught my eye was the release of former Pittsburgh Steelers 5th round draft pick, cornerback Crezdon Butler by the Arizona Cardinals.

The Steelers drafted Butler in 2010, but he never received any playing time on defense during his rookie season as he was relegated to special teams duty when he was not on the inactive list.

Butlers was back at training camp with the Steelers last year, but was released in the final round of cuts. The Cardinals claimed Butler off waivers where he was reunited with former Steelers defensive backs coach Ray Horton, who had been hired away from the Steelers to be the new defensive coordinator in Arizona.

Butler ended up suffering a dislocated ankle in practice shortly after signing with the Cardinals, which ultimately led to him being placed on injured reserve.

Ahh yes nice catch. I remember Crezdon Butler impressing in his preseason play here, then Phoenix snatched him. Horton released him tells me something tho because Horton knows him (i.e maybe Crez hasnt been the same since his injury(ies) at Phoenix, I dunno). Would be interesting to bring him in for a look, & too-bad preseason’s over because we would not a been spending time sifting thru the Freeman vs Frederick vs JoshVictorian, because Butler woulda out-competed them. If Butler had been here this preseason healthy as when he was here previously, he would be competing with Curtis Brown for the 4th CB spot.
