Steelers Release John Clay After Reaching Injury Settlement

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an injury settlement with running back John Clay and he has been released according to Ed Bouchette on Twitter.

Clay, who was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin last year, suffered a torn quad a week ago this past Sunday. Clay had been waived injured originally and placed on injured reserve according to reports.

Clay spent the better part of his rookie season on the Steelers practice squad. He was promoted to the 53 man roster late in the season and saw his first action against the St. Louis Rams in week 16. On his first NFL carry, Clay scored a touchdown from 10 yards out.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

I’d like to see him come back at some point. I actually thought he had a shot at the roster this year.

I am a fan of big running backs like Clay, unfortunately the NFL is going away from big guys that run hard, in favor of guys who are more suited for basketball on grass, Ford looked like he was a decent big back (against 3rd-4th string) against Indy
