2012 Steelers Depth Chart – Week 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers released their first depth regular season depth chart for the 2012 season on Monday, and there really are no surprises listed on it.

Chris Rainey is listed as the primary kick and punt returner over Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown respectively.

Casey Hampton is listed as the starting nose tackle over Steve McLendon, but rest assured that both will rotate in and see quite a bit of time early in the season.

Despite a solid preseason, Jonathan Dwyer remains behind Isaac Redman, who remains behind the rehabbing Rashard Mendenhall.

Despite missing all of the offseason program and training camp, Mike Wallace is back atop the “x” receiver spot on the depth chart.

Okay, so looking at this, I am seeing the following sitting in Week #1.

    1. Ryan Clark – everyone knows this.

    2. C. Batch – another no brainer

    3. Beachum – They usually only dress 7 OL for each game. Legursky and Adams will be the guys.

    4. Al Woods – He took the scratch last year regularly. I see that happening again.

    5. Decastro – Another no-brainer here. The guy is hurt, so I don’t see him dressing.

    6. Ta’amu – With 2 guys ahead of him on the chart…I believe he sits.

    7. Sylvester – Still out hurt, so he sits down.

Injuries really look like they are making most of the choices here. I could potentially see Al Woods dressing and Robinson sitting, but with question marks existing with Harrison and Worilds, I bet he dresses. If Harrison or Worilds sit then Woods probably comes in first and Beachum next.

The Snack is starting? McLendon dominated in preseason and Hampton’s coming off an ACL.

  • JayBirdDC

Our O-line depth is a bit shaky. Ouch.

  • George Siegel

I think Mendenhall will sit and Woods will be active. They will want 6 d-lineman in the rotation in the Denver air.

  • Kenneth Wilt

I forgot he wasn’t on the PUP list any more. Okay, so that basically means 4 guys are down for injury/potential death situations. Decastro, Sylvester, Mendenhall, and Clark. That leaves 3 spots with 1 most likely going to C. Batch and another to Ta’amu. I would guess that Beachum sits, but who knows.

I HOPE nothing happens to Colon!! We are in trouble if he goes down! His backup(Beachum) didn’t look good in the preseason! Ryan Lee looked much better and should’ve been the backup!!!!!!!

  • George Siegel

In reality I’m sure Legursky will be the primary backup at both guard positions.

  • HoustonJr

Agreed. I expect to see McLendon get the majority of snaps, with Hampton coming in only for goal line / short yardage situations.

  • SteelSpine

I never thought I’d say this, but Colon needs to clog. On a serious note tho I agree with you.

  • Moses

Worilds officially on the left side?

    Where have I been?
